Did you know that dance fitness is an all round body toner and a powerful fat blaster? Only 30 minutes a day will burn off 200 to 400 calories, boosting metabolism and retraining the brain to think and eat differently. Dance is the most effective form of exercise as it is gives you an all round fitness workout and actively stimulates your brain. The brain is the drive for our metabolism, food choices and motivation to exercise. Exercise triggers the release of brain chemicals such as serotonin, dopamine and endorphins. Raising your serotonin boosts your mood and overall sense of wellbeing.
Somatic (relating to the body) movement focuses consciously on the internal experience of the movement rather than the external appearance or result of the movement. When you are doing any physical movement, whether a focused exercise regime or simple movement in your daily life, including somatic principles allow a full embodied experience.
Being conscious of your breath, posture and how you are feeling in the body and emotions provide a deeper awareness which is highly beneficial to increased health and wellbeing.
Slow down and de-stress
Most people are living with daily stress which is impacting their lives more than they know. In a world where we are bombarded with constant messages and brainwashing, encouraging us to be more successful, strive higher, achieve more, buy this, look a certain way, fit into the mainstream, the list goes on and on. This constant pressure affects our nervous system in negative ways, by keeping us in a sympathetic fight or flight state. The sympathetic nervous system directs the body’s rapid involuntary response to dangerous or stressful situation. In contrast the parasympathetic nervous system predominates in quiet rest and digest state.
The main problem in this modern age is our bodies have now become wired and switched on to a sympathetic state most of the time, rather than being in the optimal rest and digest which allows us to detox, heal and tune into our intuition. Incorporating practices which slow the body down like meditation, breathwork, slow walking in nature, sensual dance and massage, allows us to tune into our authentic nature, build up our immune system, heal the body and align mind, body, soul.
